“WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS, THE MAKING OF” is my first feature-length documentary: 88 minutes behind the scenes of this film produced by IERVOLINO ENTERTAINMENT with Michael Fitzgerald and Olga Segura. Based on the novel by J.M. Coetzee and directed by Colombian director Ciro Guerra, with Mark Rylance, Johnny Depp, Robert Pattinson, Gana Bayarsaikhan and Greta Scacchi.  The synopsis tells of  “The Magistrate of an isolated frontier settlement on the border of an unnamed empire looks forward to an easy retirement until the arrival of Colonel Joll, whose task it is to report on the activities of the ‘barbarians’ and on the security situation on the border. Joll conducts a series of ruthless interrogations, which leads the Magistrate to question his loyalty to the empire.”

The film was attended by professionals of great depth and internationally recognized, from the two-time Oscar-winning Director of Photography Chris Menges, to the set designer Crispian Sallis, the Art Director Domenico Sica, the Costume Designer Carlo Poggioli, the make-up Artist Marta Roggero … only to name a few. In short, an exceptional team!

I had the luck and the great privilege of being initially hired for the realization of the “traditional” backstage for a maximum of 10 minutes, but when I found myself in Morocco to breathe such a magical atmosphere where everyone was engaged with passion, professionalism , commitment and truly great love for their work I felt, from the first day, I had to do something more. It agrees with the production, in particular “my” executive Producer Danielle Maloni and “my” Unit Publicist Edvige De Tommaso, I received the green light to make what in my head, immediately, would become a documentary. And so with the help of some special and fundamental people for the success of this project, I made “a journey behind the scenes” with the intention of telling the great work, the great passion, the great commitment carried out by professionals who are the Soul of this film. With great humility, with the sole spirit of witnessing the presence of these People, these Professionals, these Creators and Artists of the Image. It was truly an honor to be able to enter into their “intimacy” but above all to receive their availability and share with me, with us, the wonderful stories that are told in the documentary.

These days, August 2020 the film “WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS” went online on various digital platforms, starting with Samuel Goldwyn Films in the first days of August and then others to follow. At the end of August the release in Italian cinemas was announced for the end of September. So in the coming weeks this page will be updated with more details on the documentary and some curiosities. Watch the official Trailer!
